The Federation for Ulster Local Societies

Following the decision to wind up the Federation for Ulster Local Studies taken at the meeting in Dungannon on 28 February, a group of the members met in Donaghmore on 24 March to decide how best to respond to the crisis.

From that meeting two main approaches were agreed -

  1. The requisitioning of a Special Meeting of the Federation for Local Studies to rescind the Dungannon decision and to ensure the continuation of the Federation as a going concern; and
  2. As an interim measure, mainly to ensure the continuation of the Public Liability Insurance cover for the member Societies, to set up a temporary Federation, based on the same membership.

The 'new' Federation quickly circulated the membership, seeking support for the Extraordinary Meeting and asking them to support the 'new' Federation by joining it and taking provision for the Insurance Scheme which it had been agreed with the Brokers to transfer to its name.

In the event, the Extraordinary meeting was held on 28 April and successfully rescinded the decision.

The papers relating to this process are included here for reference.
